JOY

St. Francis said, “Spiritual joy is as necessary to the soul as blood is to the body.” And he said, “A gloomy man cannot be a citizen of the city of God.”

As we celebrate the Risen Christ, may we pray for the grace to CHOOSE JOY in every circumstance and experience God has Divinely appointed for us.

How can a Christian remain joyful at all times?

Joy is not circumstantial. In other words, joy doesn’t exist only when things are going our way. While it is more easily accessed and acted out during those times, the Joy of Christ is in fact perpetual. From the depth of our very souls, through our Baptism and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, we are filled with the LOVE and PEACE and JOY of Christ residing with us.  This is also how joy and suffering coexist. When we are in difficult times, may we seek Christ even more, to know His Joy that resides within us, and may we bring HIS joy to others.

For a deeper dive, we invite you to read Pope Benedict’s message on Joy at World Youth Day 2012.  A blockbuster message that touches on:

  1. Our hearts are made for joy
  2. God is the source of true joy
  3. Preserving Christian joy in our hearts
  4. The joy of love
  5. The joy of conversion
  6. Joy in times of trial
  7. Witnesses of joy
