“How long, O Lord?” Psalms 13:2
Waiting is completely counter to our culture! We are trained to desire instant gratification, instant access, instant information, instant nutrition, instant satisfaction…. but in reality, how sustaining is “instant: anything? We know waiting is nearly impossible at times, especially when we’re waiting on something we really, really, desire! Didn’t God in put the desire in our hearts in order to fulfill them? Yes! AND He calls us to wait until He’s ready to fulfill the desires of our hearts in the most optimal timing. When we’re truly ready to be receivers of His grace and His gifts. He’s always preparing us for what He has prepared for us! The first line of one of our favorite poems says, “Trust in the slow work of God.” We call it the slow cooker mode – letting all the flavors of life blend together, to complement one another in their unique purpose, knowing God is always at work to provide a bountiful banquet that nourishes, satisfies and sustains. In fact, even better than we could ever imagine on our own.
The attached reflection has gotten us through some very long waiting periods, calling us to trust, surrender, be patient, and remain steadfast in hope, because hope does not disappoint. We offer our prayers for you in whatever season of waiting you’re in. May your “slow cooker” simmer with hopeful anticipation and joy in the awe and wonder of what God is preparing for you!
