In our Catholic faith, virtue isn’t just about being a “good person” or following a set of rules, it’s about becoming the person God made us to be. Virtues are good habits that help us make the right choices and live in a way that reflects God’s love. The Church talks about the theological virtues: faith, hope, and love, which connect us directly to God, as well as the cardinal virtues: prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance, which help guide our everyday decisions. When we work on these virtues, we grow in holiness and get closer to Christ, who perfectly lived out all of them.
This is at the heart of SoulCore. Through the prayerful practice of the Rosary during SoulCore, we are invited to contemplate the life of Jesus and Mary – a life steeped in every virtue. As we move and pray, we ask for the grace to grow in these same virtues through each Mystery of the Rosary. SoulCore becomes not only a way to meditate on virtue, but also a way to let those graces take root in our hearts.
Let’s be honest: the world doesn’t always make it easy to live virtuously. There’s a lot of pressure to put ourselves first, to cut corners, or to do what feels good instead of what’s right. But that’s where virtue – and SoulCore Living – becomes so important. SoulCore Living means intentionally carrying the virtues we reflect on in the Rosary into our daily lives. It’s about allowing what begins in prayer and movement to transform the way we love our families, serve our communities, and walk through the challenges of everyday life.
Building virtue takes time. It is not something we master overnight. But with God’s grace, prayer, and a little patience with ourselves, we can grow in these habits little by little. Every small act of kindness, courage, or self-control makes a difference and brings us closer to the life God wants for us. Each time we practice SoulCore, we plant seeds of virtue; each time we embrace SoulCore Living, we water those seeds through the choices we make outside of prayer.
It’s important to know, virtue isn’t just about avoiding sin or being “nice,” it’s about becoming more like Jesus. He calls us to be holy, not because we’re expected to be perfect, but because He wants us to live in a way that reflects His love to the world. When we practice virtue – strengthened through the Rosary in SoulCore and lived out intentionally each day through SoulCore Living – we’re saying yes to that call. We become people who bring peace, joy, and hope into the lives of others. And through that, we’re not just preparing for heaven, but we’re also bringing a little bit of heaven here on earth.
PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY FOR ACQUIRING VIRTUES
O Mary, Mother of Mercy, others may ask of you what they please – bodily health, worldly goods and advantages – but I ask for whatever you see to be most needful for me and what is most in conformity with your pure heart.
You are so humble, obtain for me humility and love of contempt.
You were so patient under the sufferings and trials of live; obtain for me patience and fortitude.
You were most charitable toward your neighbor; obtain for me charity toward all, and particularly charity toward those who are in any way my enemies.
You are filled with the love of God; obtain for me the gift of His pure and holy love.
You are entirely united to the Divine Will; obtain for me complete conformity to the Will of God in all things.
You are the holiest of all creatures, O Mary; make me a saint.
Love for me is not wanting on your part; you can do all and you have the will to obtain all for me. The only thing, then, that can prevent me from receiving your favors is neglect on my part in having recourse to you, or too little confidence in your intercession. These gifts I ask of you, hoping with the greatest confidence to receive them, O Mary, my Mother, my hope, my love, my life, my refuge, my help and my consolation. Amen.
